food
Florentine’s menu is simple and eclectic, with a range of freshly-made dishes including flatbreads baked in our feature oven, a tantalising Ostrich egg dish to share and all-day classics from Eggs Florentine to our mouthwatering Tomahawk steak.
Please Note: our ostriches are temperamental and like warm weather, they lay on average one egg every two days in season.
The eggs are subject to availability & pre-order only, please call to avoid disappointment.
New owners of The Florentine restaurant reveal plans
food
Clay Alsip and Beth Vanden Berg, the husband-and-wife team that last week purchased the historic Florentine restaurant in Germantown, have big plans for Ohio’s second-oldest inn that dates to 1816.
But first and foremost, they say, the Germantown-area couple want to make it clear their plans won’t in any way diminish the historic nature of the 7,000-square-foot restaurant and former hotel space at 21 W. Market St. “We love this building, and we love Germantown,” Vanden Berg said.

MARK FISHER/STAFF Staff Writer The restaurant has shut down for minor maintenance and to give the kitchen a deep-cleaning, Alsip and Vanden Berg said.
Alsip, a Germantown native, recalls eating at The Florentine when he was 13.
JUST IN: the historic 202-year-old Florentine restaurant sells — finally
food location
The historic Florentine — Ohio’s second-oldest inn that dates to 1816 — has new, and local, ownership after spending more than a year on the market.
The new owners are Clay Alsip and his wife Beth Vanden Berg, who live in the Germantown area.
The new owners told this news outlet they will be ready to discuss their plans for The Florentine soon, perhaps in the next few days.
The Florentine, which hosted a bicentennial celebration in 2016, had been on the market for more than a year.
In their 2007 book “A Taste of Ohio History: A Guide to Historic Eateries and Their Recipes,” authors Debbie Nunley and Karen Jane Elliott note that the Florentine “has withstood the passage of time.”
Florentine Restaurant Review: A Hidden Gem in London's Lambeth
location value food ambience
I’ve been a few times, mostly to visit the fabulous Imperial War Museum – which is well worth going out of your way for – but it’s not really known as a social hotspot in London.
When I was invited to dine at Florentine, a restaurant in Lambeth that opened in March, I was a little hesitant at first.
In fact, when I met my friend Aurelie outside the restaurant she even asked me if I was OK, because I was so red.
From the outside, the restaurant looks nice and new, with lots of glass and warm lighting, and as soon as you step inside you can tell it’s the kind of place where you want to spend a whole evening, unwinding and dining.
It’s a great restaurant for a group of friends looking for somewhere close to central London without the queues or, as I mentioned, a place to refuel after a wander around the Imperial War Museum.
Florentine Restaurant & Bar Review - donutsam, a London Food Blog
food menu drinks value desserts
The menu is brasserie and there’s some signature highlights including the flat breads, steaks and the unmissable ostrich egg option.
As well, the cocktails and bubbles range at Florentine is superb and that’s where our time and this review starts at!
The steak and chips (£19) is apparently one of the most popular menu items at Florentine and we couldn’t pass up getting our fix too.
We finished off our time at Florentine with two final desserts.
There’s a few special offerings at Florentine like the Tomahawk steak and I-need-to-see-it four-person Ostrich egg dish.

food value
After opening on 27th March this year, Florentine is already pulling in Londoners with one particularly unique selling point… it’s signature sharing ostrich egg breakfast.
Arriving at Florentine on a Sunday morning with a group of very hungry friends, we were informed that the egg would take around 25 minutes to cook.
I’m not too sure what day old ostrich egg will be like but we shall see tomorrow morning I suppose!
The restaurant itself was simple and elegant, the staff were extremely attentive and looked after us well, and getting to try ostrich egg for the first time was a fun Sunday morning treat.
The signature ostrich egg breakfast accompanied by a bottle of British bubbles would cost £114 for a group of 4 (£28.50pp).

If it wasn’t printed on the receipt, you’d never guess that this attractive all-day diner is actually the restaurant for the chainy Park Plaza Waterloo hotel next door.
I guess you can’t blame ’em; hotel restaurants tend towards sheeny, homogenous mediocrity, and Florentine is an unexpected treat.
The dining room is sectioned off from the reception by a giant chainmail screen.
The giant menu is pan-European à la carte – with a dedicated flatbread section, for some reason – plus a few larger sharers, including a perturbing-sounding ostrich egg full english for four.
A snack-sized aubergine and mozzarella piadina (a kind of Continental quesadilla) was smoky and fleshy, but no match for a main-sized flatbread topped with Tuscan sausage and stilton.
